The role of business in socially just and environmentally sustainable tea. Globally, more than 13 million people are involved in tea supply chains, and for the majority, their livelihoods are almost entirely dependent upon the production of tea. Social inequalities, economic instability, and the threat of climate change are some of the biggest challenges facing these tea communities. Too big for one organization to handle alone, without fundamental change these issues are only likely to deepen over time.
The tea industry is coming under increasing scrutiny from civil society and the media, whilst legislation and regulation are incorporating social and environmental performance. What does this mean for tea companies and the tea sector?
